Ready for the new HSK.
MidMando now follows HSK 3.0, the new exam syllabus the papers use from December 2026, and you can sit practice papers for every level. This is the biggest update since the app was rebuilt.
The course follows HSK 3.0
The course now teaches the vocabulary of the HSK 3.0 exam syllabus: 11,000 words across HSK 1 to 9. If you were already studying, your place in the course moves with you, and any word the new syllabus dropped stays in your Outside HSK list with its history.
Practice papers for every level
Full practice papers from HSK 1 to HSK 7–9, with their listening recordings, and a speaking test for HSK 3 to 6. Sit a paper as an exam, or practise with every answer checked as you go. Each question has an explanation in English, pinyin can be switched on or off, and you can ask for feedback on what you wrote or said. On iPad, write your answers with Apple Pencil.
Four skills for every word
Every word now records how well you read it, hear it, write it by hand and type it, each on the same ladder: not met, started, warming, solid, mastered. Show your whole course by any one skill and see what you can read and what you can write.
Flashcards
A swipe deck of the words you can read. Swipe right if you know it; swipe left and its page opens so you can look again.
Translate from the camera
Point the camera at a menu, a sign or a page, or choose a photo, and translate the Chinese in it. The text is read on your device, and the app suggests a fix when a character looks misread. On the Mac, drop a photo on the window.
Chit Chat with 布布
Everyday small talk with 布布, using only the words you can read, beside the guided chats.
Your Chinese as a wallpaper
Write any chengyu, or a phrase you translated, with a brush, in one of eleven calligraphy layouts, and keep it as your wallpaper.
The Writing tab
Whole sentences written by hand, with every character marked. Copy, take dictation, translate or write your own, keep a notebook of your pages, and work through a writing course built on how Chinese schoolchildren learn.
Quick fire widget
A new word on your Home Screen on a timer you set. Tap it, or the word of the day, to open that word.
Provinces & Cities
Every one of China's 961 districts, with what each is known for, and your own bookmarks and notes for places.
And more
Type the pinyin instead of choosing it, hide the pinyin once a word is learned, other ways to say it for every word in the course, and translations that split Chinese into words more accurately.
